Your Valley Preventative Dentistry Clinics
At our Dental Design Studio family of offices we pride ourselves on our open and honest approach to caring for your family. Because our offices are all owned by dentist, our treatment plans are focused on your dental needs and our dentists won’t “over diagnose” treatments that may not be necessary. Rather, we’ll work with you to help you keep your smile healthy through effective preventative dentistry.
Gentle Cleanings with Our Preventive Dentistry Team
Keeping your smile healthy starts with regular visits with our hygienists. For most people, a cleaning and exam is beneficial every six months. During these appointments, we will also:
- Screen for periodontal disease
- Take any necessary x-rays to evaluate your current dental restoration and overall dental health
- Perform an oral cancer exam
- Discuss oral hygiene concerns or recommendations
- Conduct an orthodontic evaluation, as necessary
- Review any questions or requests regarding cosmetic treatments available from our Phoenix dentist.
- Most importantly, never make you feel rushed
We Love Kids!
Are you looking for a Phoenix, Gilbert, Peoria or Scottsdale dentist who accepts young patients? Dental Design Studio does! We begin seeing children around the age of two. In fact, our dental team takes pride in working hard to accommodate your family’s schedule by booking everyone’s appointment around the same time. That way you make fewer trips to our practice and spend less time in our office and still get all the same day dental care that you need.
Preventive Measures to Reduce Tooth Decay
Protective dental sealants are a great way to protect deep grooves and pits in your back teeth — areas which easily develop cavities — and take only a few minutes to apply. We recommend sealants on permanent molars for most children; these teeth usually erupt around ages six and twelve, depending on the child.
If you’ve had quite a history of recurring dental work, have naturally weak enamel, or are undergoing orthodontic treatment, be sure to request a fluoride treatment after your cleaning. Fluoride strengthens your tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay causing bacteria. It is also effective in reducing tooth sensitivity for adults.
“Why do I Need X-rays?”
One of the most common questions that our dentists hear during patient checkups, is “Why do I need to have x-rays of my teeth?”
Surprisingly to many, dental x-rays are extremely safe. Modern digital equipment uses up to 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays a few decades ago (even less than you’re exposed to on a day out in the sun.)
The minimal exposure to radiation provides us with a very important screening tool, these images allow us to assess areas that aren’t visible during your clinical exam…such as between the teeth, around old fillings, along the margins of crowns, or hidden below your gums. They’re essential for diagnosing or finding conditions such as:
- Cysts and tumors within the jaw
- Impacted or unerupted teeth
- Dental abscesses
- Tooth decay
- Leaky fillings or broken teeth
- Periodontal disease
- Planning for dental implant treatment
What to Expect at Your Appointment
When you visit one of our Phoenix metro area locations, you’ll feel right at home. From our complimentary beverages and Wi-Fi to the convenient televisions mounted in the treatment rooms, it is our goal to make your trip to our office as comfortable as possible.
We want you to feel relaxed and in-tune with everything going on. That’s just one of the reasons why we utilize intraoral cameras as part of your exam and treatment planning process. If you require any therapy — whether it be a crown, filling, or something else — we can share high resolution images of your tooth, so that you see exactly the same thing that we do.
Each of our Phoenix, Gilbert, and Scottsdale practices also utilizes digital radiographs, for better communication with our patients and reduced radiation levels. If you do need any type of treatment, we’ll discuss every restorative option available for you to choose from. We also offer convenient 0% interest financing through CareCredit.
Keeping Your Teeth Healthy for Life
With great preventive dental care, it’s possible for you to keep your teeth healthy for decades. Our hygienists and dental team will show you how to carefully brush and floss in a way that reduces your risk of periodontal disease or tooth decay.
Here are just a few things to keep in mind:
- If you wear full or partial dentures, remove them each night and soak them in a cleansing solution, brushing them thoroughly the next morning to prevent any infections.
- Use a floss threader to clean under dental bridges, to reduce the risk of new tooth decay around the supporting crowns.
- Floss dental implants and crowns as you would your natural teeth: wrapping the floss around the tooth in a “C” shape and gliding it gently up and down several times just under the gumline.
- If you do notice bleeding, floss daily for at least two weeks. If symptoms persist, you should ask us to screen for periodontitis.
